Pope Francis has died as a result of a stroke, Vatican news agency Vatican News reported on 21 April.
According to the report, Dr Andrea Arcangeli, director of the Vatican’s Office of Health and Hygiene, released the official medical report on Pope Francis’ death.
“The cause of death of Pope Francis was determined to be a stroke followed by coma and irreversible cardiovascular collapse,” the report said.
According to the medical report, the pope had a history of acute respiratory failure caused by bilateral pneumonia, multiple bronchiectasis, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.
As the agency adds, the pontiff’s cause of death was confirmed by electrocardiographic thanatography.
Pope Francis died on the morning of 21 April at the age of 88.
On 14 February, Francis was hospitalised with a severe respiratory infection, which led to the most serious deterioration in his health during his 12-year papacy. The pope made his first public appearance on 23 March after more than five weeks of illness-related absence.
Because of his recovery from the ailment, he did not lead the pre-Easter rituals and service on 20 April.
