Finland’s defence ministry said two Russian warplanes probably violated the country’s airspace – in the Gulf of Finland – on May 23.
“We take the suspected violation of territorial integrity seriously and the investigation is now ongoing,” Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen said.
The Border Guard is investigating the incident and will provide further information as the investigation progresses.
Such cases of Russian aircraft violating the airspace of European countries have previously happened repeatedly. In particular, this was reported by Poland, Finland and Sweden.
