According to the Interfax-Ukraine Culture project, American film critics and media outlets are calling the drama Train Dreams one of the main favourites for the Oscar-2026 Best Film award. This is according to a number of American publications, in particular Entertainment Weekly, which analyses the nominees and potential winners of the current award season.
“Train Dreams” is already called one of the most poetic and emotional films of the season, observers note, paying attention to the atmosphere of the picture and restrained acting.
The film tells the story of a lumberjack who works on railway construction in the American West in the early twentieth century. From – for his fate, the director shows a period of rapid change in the United States – industrialisation, the development of railways and the transformation of society.
Critics note that the film combines a broad historical theme with a very personal story of loneliness, loss and finding meaning in life. It is this dramatic depth, according to reviewers, is traditionally well received by members of the American Film Academy.
The camerawork and the atmosphere of the film, which conveys the harsh beauty of American nature, are separately noted. Many reviews compare the film with classic dramas about the “little man” trying to find his place in a rapidly changing world.
Experts also talk about another trend in modern Hollywood – a return to deep author’s stories. After years of domination by large-scale franchises, the industry is once again turning to chamber dramas in which emotions and human stories are the main ones.
The Oscar-2026 ceremony will take place on the night of March 15-16, Kiev time, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. That’s when it will become clear whether “Train Dreams” will be able to confirm the status of one of the favourites of the award season.
