The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to avert a government shutdown-preventing a government shutdown.
This bill continues to fund the government at current levels until 30 September.
The next step is for the U.S. Senate to consider the bill. Once approved by the Senate, the document will go to the President for his signature for final approval. This will ensure continued funding for federal agencies and avoid disruptions in their work.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that the proposed bill to fund the government would eventually be approved and a government shutdown would probably not happen.
Last December, the US Senate approved a temporary funding bill that would avoid a government shutdown-shutdown. Then the Democrat-controlled Senate passed a bill to extend government funding through March 2025 by an 85-11 vote.
Passing a government budget by the US Congress is always a difficult task as both chambers are divided between Republicans and Democrats.
In the US, the fiscal year runs from 1 October to 30 September. When a budget for the current fiscal year has not been passed by Congress and signed by the President, federal agencies are usually funded through temporary extension resolutions at the previous fiscal year’s level.
