US President Donald Trump is interested in ending Russia’s war against Ukraine and sees no room for a military solution – only a diplomatic one. This was stated by the US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.
“The United States remains focused on preserving President Trump’s ability to end hostilities (in Ukraine – ed.). Therefore, no decisions on future assistance (in Ukraine – ed.) have yet been approved,” the diplomat said in response to a journalist’s question about the possibility of supplying Ukraine with US weapons.
Whitaker also noted that the US is counting on Europe’s leadership in providing Ukraine with “the resources and political capital necessary to achieve lasting peace.”
“Europeans are interested in ensuring peace on their continent, and the United States will continue to do everything it can to support that,” the head of the US mission to NATO said.
Commenting on the possibility of supporting the so-called “coalition of the willing,” led by, among others, the United Kingdom and France, which aims to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, Whitaker noted that he would address his European colleagues “regarding the details of such a mission, as well as the timing.”
