After almost three-month pause, Ukraine restarts oil pumping by “friendship”

Ukraine resumed oil transit through the Druzhba oil pipeline after 12:00 on Wednesday, a source close to the Ukrainian government told the Energoreforma online portal.

As reported with reference to the Minister of economy of Slovakia Denisa Sakova, the resumption of supplies by the Druzhba oil pipeline to this country is expected on Thursday morning.

Hungary and Slovakia have not been receiving Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline since 27 January this year due to damage to the pipeline as a result of Russian shelling. Earlier, Hungary’s acting prime minister Viktor Orban said he would not lift his veto on a EUR90bn EU loan to Ukraine until oil supplies are resumed.

Peter Magyar, leader of the Tisza party, which won the Hungarian election, called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to ensure that the Druzhba oil pipeline is reopened as soon as possible.

The Kremlin said the previous day that Russia was technologically ready to resume transit through the Druzhba oil pipeline to Hungary.

On Wednesday, 22 April, Hungarian MOL said that the state-owned Ukrtransnafta JSC, which is responsible for the operation of the Ukrainian section of the Druzhba oil pipeline, had officially notified it of the completion of repair work on the Druzhba oil pipeline, as well as of the termination of force majeure circumstances that had been in effect since 27 January 2026.
