Azerbaijani gas began flowing to Syria via Turkey on 2 August, Turkey’s Anadolu Agency reported.
During the launch of the Kilis-Aleppo pipeline, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced that 2 billion cubic metres of gas can now power 5 million Syrian households annually.
The pipeline repairs were completed in May. Syria’s Minister of Electricity had previously confirmed the technical readiness of this gas transmission corridor.
A memorandum on the start of supply between Syria and Azerbaijan was signed in Baku on 14 July. Turkey acts as an important transit partner in the realisation of this arrangement. A trilateral energy pact could change the dynamics in the region’s energy system.
