From March 2027, short-term conscription will be introduced in Serbia. The country’s president, Aleksandar Vučić, announced this during a visit to the Batajnica military airfield near Belgrade, according to N1 Info and Euronews Srbija.
“Our army is growing stronger, and we will become even stronger once our (regular) military service begins. This will further strengthen our defence capabilities,” Vucic emphasised.
According to him, the official conscription drive will begin once all organisational procedures have been finalised.
In September 2024, the Serbian government decided to reinstate compulsory military service for men under the age of 30. It will last 75 days; women may serve on a voluntary basis.
