On Sunday, 28 June, a new temperature record of 41.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Germany, according to preliminary data from the German Weather Service (DWD), as reported by Agence France-Presse.
The station in Koschen, near the Polish border in Eastern Brandenburg, recorded 41.7°C at around 16:00 local time (17:00 Kyiv time), breaking the previous record of 41.5°C set the day before in Drevitz.
In June, European countries were hit by a heatwave that first affected Western Europe and then moved eastwards. According to The Guardian, on Sunday more than 191 million people were experiencing temperatures of at least 35°C – extreme heat warnings have been issued in Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary.
On 28 June, Poland could break the temperature record set in 1921 – 40.2°C. In the Czech Republic, a new temperature record of 40.6°C was recorded on Saturday, 27 June. Meteorologists expect temperatures to exceed 41°C on Sunday.
