On Saturday morning, 27 September, a local resident found the wreckage of a drone in the Luitemaa nature conservation area in Pärnu County, local media reported.
According to preliminary information, it is part of a large drone that could have been washed ashore from the sea.
Members of the Security Police (KaPo), the Police and Border Guard Board and the Rescue Board are working on the site. They are investigating how a drone part of foreign origin ended up off the Estonian coast.
So far, there is no confirmation that the drone was in Estonian airspace or crashed on Estonian territory. There is also no information about the presence of explosives.
“So far there are no grounds to believe that the drone flew into Estonia or posed a threat to flight safety. According to our data, it did not contain explosives. However, KaPo is verifying the circumstances of the incident as part of the criminal proceedings launched in 2022 to gather evidence of Russian aggression against Ukraine. If necessary, we will also share information with partners from other countries,” said lead state prosecutor Taavi Pern.
Earlier, on 20 September, police also found an “unidentified object” near a house in Warmia and Mazury in Poland, Polish Interior and Administration Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galecka said.
On the night of 10 September, 19 drones flew into Polish airspace. Poland shot down three of them. Not only Polish aircraft were in the air, but also aircraft of allied powers stationed in Poland.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki called the incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace an attempt by Russia to test the reaction of Warsaw and NATO.
