At the Google I/O 2025 conference this evening, the company unveiled a number of new features and products, most of which are related to artificial intelligence and further development of its services. Among the main innovations are search updates, improved AI models, enhanced features in Gmail and Meet, and future developments in AR/VR.
AI Mode: a new era of search
Google’s search engine will soon have an AI Mode-chat bot based on the Gemini 2.5 model, focused on complex tasks such as comparing products or plotting graphs. At launch, it will only be available in the US. Some of its features will be integrated into the familiar AI Overviews-short AI-based answers used by 1.5 billion people every month. It will still be possible to switch them off for those who want to use classic search.
Project Astra: a universal digital assistant
The updated Project Astra showed how artificial intelligence can assist in everyday tasks, from fixing your bike to calling the shops. It mimics a universal assistant that can adapt to different situations and sources of information.
Gemini 2.5 and new features
The new Gemini 2.5 model has an improved Deep Think mode, multimedia content support and the ability to automatically switch languages during translation. In addition, the functionality of Gemini Live has been expanded, which is now available on Android and iOS and is capable of answering real-time photo and video questions.
Gmail and Meet with personalisation and translation
Gmail has introduced personalised replies that take into account a user’s correspondence style. For them to work, you need to give access to emails and files on the disc, but only with the consent of the owner. On-the-fly translation between Spanish and English became available in Google Meet, so far in beta for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Flow, Veo 3 and Imagen 4: next-level content generation
Among Google’s new tools is the Flow app, which allows you to create films with camera control, editing and adding content using generative video. Also introduced is Veo 3, which creates video with sound, and Imagen 4 – improved image generation with high detail.
AI subscriptions: access to maximum capabilities
The company announced two subscriptions for access to advanced AI features: – AI Pro-AI Ultra ($250/month), which includes 30 TB of storage and YouTube Premium.
AR /VR: Android XR and Project Aura
On the AR/VR front, Google is continuing its work on Android XR. A joint project with Xreal called Project Aura-smart glasses with no specified release date has been unveiled. A new headset from Samsung is also expected later in the year.
Gemini integration into Chrome and internet security
The Chrome browser has introduced the ability to use Gemini to interact with the contents of open tabs. In addition, Chrome’s password manager can now automatically change passwords in case of data leaks on supported sites.
Google Beam: a new format for corporate communication
Project Starline’s 3D enterprise solution has been renamed Google Beam and will be available to large customers.
AI at the centre of Google’s ecosystem
These new products show that Google continues to integrate artificial intelligence into all of its services, transforming it from an auxiliary tool to a key element of digital everyday life.
