Iran has accused the United States of breaching the peace agreement that brought an end to their recent conflict, after US forces carried out strikes on Iranian military targets.
On 27 June, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the attacks on coastal surveillance facilities were a “blatant violation” of the recent memorandum of understanding between the two countries, as well as the UN Charter.
The US military said that on 26 June it had carried out strikes on Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar installations, in response to an Iranian attack on a cargo ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran stated that it had struck targets linked to US forces in retaliation, but did not specify the targets or their locations.
The day before, US President Donald Trump had accused Iran of attacking ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Freedom of navigation through the strait has become one of the central issues in efforts to secure an agreement between the United States and Iran, after Tehran effectively closed the waterway following US-Israeli air strikes earlier this year.
