Iran has struck a refinery in Haifa

On 19 March, Iran launched a missile strike on the city of Haifa in northern Israel, Ynet reported. According to media reports, the target of the strike was an oil refinery in Haifa Bay.

After the strike, power outages were recorded in parts of Haifa neighbourhoods and the nearby city of Kiryat Haim.

No injuries were reported as a result of the attack.

Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen said that no significant damage was done to infrastructure.

Iranian state television announced that the Haifa strike was a response to an Israeli attack on the South Pars gas field. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps says the Ashdod refinery was also hit, but other sources say no facilities in the Israeli city have been hit.

Iranian forces have repeatedly attacked Saudi Arabia and Gulf states with missiles and drones since the US-Israeli military operation against Iran began on 28 February. The targets of the attacks, according to authorities in those countries, were residential neighbourhoods and civilian infrastructure, including oil facilities, airports, homes and diplomatic missions.

Following Iran’s missile attack on QatarEnergy facilities on 18 March, US President Donald Trump warned Tehran that in the event of another attack, “the United States, with or without Israel’s help, will destroy the entire South Pars oilfield with a force and power like Iran has never seen before.”
