Iranian media reported on 16 May that Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, during a visit to Tehran, discussed with his Iranian counterpart the “resumption of talks” between Iran and the United States.
Naqvi, who was on a two-day visit to Iran, met with Eskandar Momeni, according to media reports close to the Iranian government, and they held “detailed discussions on Iran-Pakistan relations and prospects for resuming peace talks.”
Pakistan has been mediating since the Iran-US ceasefire took effect in early April. Talks between senior officials from Washington and Tehran have taken place in Islamabad but have been inconclusive.
In recent weeks, Pakistan has been tasked with relaying proposals to the US and Iran to end the war. US President Donald Trump has called the proposals put forward by Iran unacceptable.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on 15 May that Tehran had received messages from the United States indicating the Trump administration’s willingness to continue talks aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.
