Russia will respond to Ukraine’s attacks on its airfields when and as the Russian military deems necessary, Kremlin speaker Dmitriy Peskov said on 5 June.
He confirmed that Russian leader Vladimir Putin told US President Donald Trump during a telephone conversation that Moscow would respond to the attack.
At the same time, Putin’s spokesman said that Russia would like to hear “harsh condemnation” of the strikes at the international level.
At the same time, the Kremlin said Russian Federation would continue negotiations with Ukraine.
Peskov also said Putin and Trump did not discuss holding a face-to-face meeting during their conversation on 4 June. According to him, there is a common understanding that such a meeting is necessary, but it needs to be properly prepared.
The Kremlin spokesman also noted that Putin and Trump did not discuss the possible lifting of sanctions against Russia.
US President Donald Trump said that on 4 June during a telephone conversation Russian President Vladimir Putin “very strongly stated that he would have to respond to the recent attack on airfields”.
The US embassy in Ukraine then warned of the risk of “significant aerial attacks”.
Ukrainian drones attacked several Russian military airfields on 1 June using drones hidden in prefabricated huts mounted on open truck platforms. The SBU claimed that more than 40 Russian military aircraft were destroyed. The operation, Kiev said, had been prepared for a year and a half.
