US President Donald Trump praised American nuclear submarines in response to a publication by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. He said other countries could hand over their nuclear arsenal to Iran.
“By far the strongest and best weapon we have, which is 20 years ahead of the rest, is our nuclear submarines. They are the most powerful and deadliest weapons ever created,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social Network.
He recalled the successful strike by US nuclear submarines against nuclear facilities in Iran. According to him, 30 Tomahawk cruise missiles were launched and all 30 “hit the target perfectly.”
“Tomahawks are capable of carrying nuclear warheads, nuclear submarines were created as a nuclear deterrent, first against the Soviet Union, now against Russia and China. Trump reacted to Medvedev’s publication in a telegram criticising the US strike on Iran.
Medvedev said that as a result of the strike, Iran would continue its military nuclear programme and build nuclear weapons (Tehran denies the existence of such intentions). “A number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their nuclear warheads,” the former president said, without specifying whom exactly he meant.
“Did I really hear that Medvedev promised to supply nuclear warheads to Iran? Did he really say that or is it just a figment of my imagination? If he said it, and if confirmed, please let me know immediately,” Trump wrote.
The US president made it clear that the word “nuclear” was a banned word and should not be treated “so carelessly”.
Medvedev later responded to Trump, saying Russia has no intention of supplying nuclear weapons to Iran because it abides by the treaty on the non-proliferation of such weapons. “But other countries can do it – and that’s what I wanted to say,” he wrote.
The transfer of nuclear weapons to other countries is banned by international non-proliferation agreements. Moscow officially opposes Iran’s development of such weapons.
