Ukraine and Lithuania will jointly produce defence products to strengthen the security of both countries, Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmygal has said.
“Together we are focusing on launching joint productions, in particular on the creation of long-range drones. The corresponding letter of intent regarding joint production of defence products in Lithuania and Ukraine was signed in Kiev together with Lithuanian National Defence Minister Dovile Shakalene,” he wrote in a telegram on August 25.
According to Shmygalya, they were talking about “concrete prospects” of industrial co-operation, which are opened thanks to the letter of intent.
He added that the document creates new opportunities to launch joint ventures, develop Ukrainian companies in Lithuania and exchange technologies.
“I thanked my Lithuanian colleague for the visit and productive interaction. It is important that Lithuania will continue to allocate 0.25 per cent of its GDP for military aid to Ukraine until 2027. This is a strong signal of long-term support for our warriors. We are focused on attracting additional funding for the purchase of weapons and the development of Ukrainian industry,” Shmygal said.
The day before, on Ukraine’s Independence Day, the Ukrainian president’s office reported that a defence forum was held in Kiev, which was attended by nine defence ministers of partner countries.
Earlier this month, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that his country was ready to assist in the process of security guarantees to Ukraine.
