During control at the Medice border crossing point in Poland, border guards found a hundred-dollar note in the possession of a Ukrainian citizen. Its level of radioactive radiation exceeded the norm in 1905. About it reports the Border Guard Service of Poland.
The woman explained that the money was intended for the purchase of a car. She tried to transport about 10 thousand dollars. However, according to the decision of the services, the woman was not allowed into Poland.
“When the 54-year-old Ukrainian woman passed through the radiometric gate, a signal indicating significant radiation overload went off,” the border guards said in a statement.

After a detailed review, it turned out that one of the banknotes contained an isotope used for medical purposes.
The officers placed the $100 note in a special container and consulted with the National Atomic Energy Agency.
According to Polish border guards, a similar incident occurred in December 2025.
A Polish citizen was transporting a significant amount of currency from Ukraine. It was found that the radiation level of the $100 banknote was significantly exceeded, and the man returned to Ukraine.
Radiation on money most often appears due to accidental contact contamination with radioisotope microparticles from medical institutions or industrial facilities, or as a result of the use of radioactive tags by intelligence agencies to track banknotes.
