Uzbek president appoints eldest daughter as head of his administration

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reestablished the post of head of the Presidential Administration and appointed his eldest daughter Saida to the post, the Uzbek service of Radio Liberty reported.

The post of head of the presidential administration was abolished in August 2023 by Mirziyoyev’s decree. It was then headed by Sardor Umurzakov, who was later appointed presidential adviser for special assignments.

Saida Mirziyeva has served as Assistant to the President since August 2023, and before that she worked as Head of the Communications and Information Policy Sector of the Executive Office of the Presidential Administration since November 2022. This sector was part of the system of former deputy chief of staff Komil Allamzhonov, who was responsible for public opinion research and information policy.

Last October, Allamzhonov, considered one of Saida Mirziyeva’s close associates, was assassinated. His car was shot at, but he and the driver were unhurt.

After the assassination attempt, Allamjonov announced that he was leaving politics and said he would continue to work in the private sector.

However, on the evening of 23 June it became known that Komil Allamzhonov had been appointed as an independent advisor to Saida Mirziyeva. He will reportedly advise on investment, freedom of speech and support for independent media.

Radio Liberty’s local service reported that the assassination attempt on Allamzhonov was the catalyst for personnel changes in the security forces. Last November, Abdusalom Azizov, chairman of Uzbekistan’s State Security Service, and dozens of officers were dismissed from their posts.

In February 2025, 10 defendants in the Allamzhonov assassination case received up to 23 years in prison.
