The United States State Department said on 1 May that it had approved the sale of more than $8.6 billion worth of military equipment to allied states in the Middle East, including Israel.
Also on the list of countries approved to receive U.S. arms are U.S. Gulf allies Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
The diplomatic office specified that it approves the sale of $4.01 billion worth of Patriot air and missile defence replenishment services to Qatar and $992.4 million worth of Advanced Precision Kill Weapons Systems (APKWS).
Washington also approved the sale of a $2.5 billion integrated battle management system to Kuwait. Israel will receive advanced precision precision strike weapon systems worth $992.4 million.
The State Department approved the $147.6 million sale of APKWS to the Emirates.
Iran has been striking targets in the Persian Gulf, among others, since the United States and Israel launched a military operation against it on 28 February.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in April expressed concern that a protracted U.S.-Israeli war against Iran could weaken U.S. support for Kiev. Zelensky said he was most concerned about the Patriot missiles needed to intercept Russian ballistic missiles because Ukraine still lacks an effective alternative.
