Authorities in Russia’s Krasnodar region said the open burning in Tuapse had been eliminated

An open fire at the site of the Tuapse port has been liquidated, the operational headquarters of Russia’s Krasnodar region said on 2 May.

“An open burning has been liquidated at the sea terminal in Tuapse,” the statement said.

143 people and 25 units of equipment continue to work at the scene.

The head of the Tuapse district, Sergei Boiko, said on Saturday morning that the liquidation of the consequences of the oil spill was continuing at three sites.

“Fifty-seven people evacuated earlier from the territory near the refinery remain in the city’s hotels,” he added.

Tuapse’s oil infrastructure has been attacked four times since mid-April. After a drone attack on the refinery on 16 and 20 April, combustion products entered the atmosphere, and due to rising water levels in the river, oil products spilled there overflowed over protective barriers and entered the waters of the Black Sea.

On the night of 28 April, drones attacked the refinery again. A regional level emergency regime was introduced on the territory of the Tuapse municipal district.

After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, various facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation have been subjected to air strikes. The AFU General Staff confirmed most of the attacks, saying that the Ukrainian Defence Forces were “systematically implementing measures aimed at reducing the combat potential of the Russian occupation forces and forcing the Russian Federation to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine”.
