Canada extends duty-free regime for goods from Ukraine for another year

Canadian Minister of Finance and National Revenue François-Philippe Champagne announced that Canada will extend the duty exemption order for Ukrainian goods until 9 June 2026, the Canadian government said on its website

“Canada remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine as it fights to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity and democracy. The conflict initiated by Russia, with the support of Belarus, continues to have a serious impact on Ukraine’s economy, including its ability to export goods to world markets,” the Canadian Finance Ministry said in a press release. The document recalls that last month in Banff, Alberta, G7 finance ministers and central bank governors unanimously reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine.

“Canada continues to support Ukraine’s economy by extending duty-free imports of Ukrainian goods into Canada for one year,” it said.

Since issuing the duty exemption order for goods from Ukraine on 9 June 2022, Canada has imported more than $35 million worth of these goods, with $8.5 million in customs duties written off. Approximately $1.2 million of customs duties are expected to be refunded between 10 June 2025 and 9 June 2026.

The duty exemption order for Ukrainian goods came into effect on 9 June 2022 for an initial period of one year, after which it was renewed annually. The order temporarily cancels customs duties applied to imports of Ukrainian goods.
