In Russia, problems in the operation of the Google Meet videoconferencing service have been fixed, Russian users have reported. This failure is not related to technical problems on Google’s side, RBC news agency reports citing the company’s press service.
“We are aware of problems with users’ access to Google Meet in Russia; this is not related to technical problems on Google’s side,” the report said.
On 27 August, Russian users of Google Meet reported problems with the service for the second time in a week. For the first time they complained about interruptions on 22 August. Roskomnadzor claims that they did not restrict the work of Google Meet.
After blocking calls in Telegram and WhatsApp in Russia, the Google Meet service took second place in the list of free applications that are most downloaded in the Russian App Store.
“Problems on Google’s side” in Russia were previously used to justify the slowdown of the company’s other service, YouTube. Google denied its involvement in the disruptions in the video hosting.
Against the backdrop of the problems of Western services that make it possible to make calls over the Internet, Russia is now promoting a Russian development called Max. Specialists assume that communication in this messenger will become easily accessible to Russian security and intelligence services.
