London police detain second Ukrainian national suspected of setting fire to Starmer’s home

London police have detained another Ukrainian citizen suspected of setting fire to the house and other property of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer – 34-year-old Petro Pochynk. Earlier, Ukrainian Roman Lavrynovych and Ukrainian-born Romanian citizen Stanislav Karpyuk were arrested in the same case.

Pochinka faces charges of arson with intent to endanger human life. All suspects are accused of conspiracy.

Pochinok is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 21 May where he will be remanded in custody.

The investigation believes the suspects set fire to three properties between 8 and 12 May. One of the affected houses in north London belongs to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. It’s where he lived with his family before he became prime minister. Starmer and his family now live in an official residence in Downing Street, while the four-bedroom house he owns is temporarily rented out. The fire damaged the entrance to the house, but no one was injured.

A car was also set on fire in the same street. The owner of the car, a neighbour of the Prime Minister, thought the fire was caused by a faulty battery. The hybrid car was completely burnt out. The fire later broke out at the front door of a house converted into flats in Islington. This property is also linked to the British Prime Minister.

Keir Starmer himself called the incident an “attack on democracy”.
