US President Donald Trump is demanding amendments to the draft agreement between Washington and Tehran on Iran’s nuclear programme and the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. This is reported by Axios, citing sources.
According to the publication, Trump insists on clearer language on the issue of highly enriched uranium. The US side wants to fix how and in what terms the US will receive Iranian nuclear material.
Also, the US president suggested adjusting certain provisions related to the resumption of transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
Axios sources said the White House still expects the deal to succeed, but the timeline remains uncertain. One administration official said the document could be agreed within days or later.
The New York Times writes about the need for additional edits. According to the newspaper, Trump wants to revise some points related to the unblocking of Iranian assets.
The interlocutors of the edition note that the US President is annoyed by the delayed terms of Tehran’s response to the American proposals.
Earlier, the media reported that the draft memorandum may provide for the extension of the ceasefire for 60 days, the start of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear programme and the resumption of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Among the unresolved issues are the timing of lifting the US naval blockade and possible easing of sanctions against Iranian oil exports.
