Romania has announced that it has uncovered a sabotage network coordinated by Russia

Romanian intelligence has reported that it has uncovered a sabotage network which, according to the agency, is coordinated by the Russian secret services. According to the intelligence service, its members were involved in a fire that broke out in September at an industrial site in central Romania, not far from a state-owned arms manufacturing plant.

An investigation is underway into three individuals — two Belarusian nationals and one Ukrainian national. The Romanian authorities have issued arrest warrants for them. Two suspects were detained in Germany and the third in Poland, reports Digi 24. Romania will seek their extradition.

“Coordinators from the Russian Federation identified a number of targets in the region for this network: state-owned and private arms manufacturing enterprises, as well as other sites of military and industrial interest,” the statement said.

European countries accuse Moscow of sabotage, cyber-attacks and disinformation directed against supporters of military aid to Ukraine. Among such allegations is the drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport in August, which strained relations between Berlin and Moscow.

Russia denies any involvement in such acts of sabotage.
