Russia has warned Australia that the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine will lead to “serious consequences,” Australian Media reports, citing a statement by the Russian Embassy.
“Russia has repeatedly made it clear that foreign military presence in Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable. Therefore, the idea of Western military deployments to Ukraine under the guise of peacekeepers is designed to undermine peace efforts. Canberra remains firmly on the side of war along with those in Europe who are betting on the continuation and escalation of the conflict despite encouraging moves towards peace talks,” the statement said.
Last week, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his government would consider any proposal to commit troops to Ukraine as part of a multinational peacekeeping force.
Earlier, French Finance Minister Eric Lombard said that Britain, Germany, France and other European countries were ready to send troops to Ukraine to secure a possible ceasefire. at the same time, he expressed hope that the USA would support European troops.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that about two dozen countries were interested in joining the coalition in support of Ukraine.
