Russia: Tuapse oil refinery back on fire after drone attack

A fire broke out again at an oil refinery in Tuapse in Russia’s Krasnodar region on the night of 28 April after a drone attack, the region’s operational headquarters said.

“There was a fire at the refinery in Tuapse due to the fall of drone debris. There are no casualties. In extinguishing involved 122 people and 39 units of equipment,” – stated in the message.

Telegram channel Astra, having carried out OSINT analysis, also claims that the Tuapse oil refinery is on fire, noting that only four days have passed since the large-scale fire at the marine terminal was extinguished after previous attacks.

On the night of 28 April, Tuapse residents reported a large number of explosions and a new fire at the local refinery.

The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the new attack.

Ukraine attacked oil facilities in Tuapse on 16 and 20 April. As the AFU General Staff reported the day before, the attack on 20 April destroyed 24 and damaged four refinery tanks. The large-scale fire lasted for several days. Combustion products got into the air, residents of Tuapse reported “oil rain”, subsequently oil products ended up in the sea. On 23 April, local authorities for the first time acknowledged an environmental disaster due to the fire at the refinery.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, various facilities on Russian territory have been subjected to air strikes. Oil refineries (refineries) have been targeted most often in 2024 and 2025. Russian facilities in the occupied territories of Ukraine have also been targeted.

The AFU General Staff confirmed most of the attacks, stating that the Ukrainian Defence Forces were “systematically implementing measures aimed at reducing the combat potential of the Russian occupation forces and forcing Russia to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine”.
