Samsung is preparing to manufacture AI5 chips for Tesla

South Korea’s Samsung Electronics has begun preparations to manufacture new AI5 chips for the US company Tesla, according to the Yonhap news agency, citing industry sources.

Recently, one of Samsung’s senior executives announced on LinkedIn that the final design documentation for the mass production of these chips had been handed over to the company.

According to him, the processors will be manufactured at Samsung’s plant in Taylor, Texas, using a 2 nm process. The site is scheduled to come on stream this year, with mass production for major clients set to begin next year.

The AI5 is Tesla’s in-house development. It is expected that these chips will power the Full Self-Driving (FSD) driver-assistance system, the Optimus humanoid robots and the company’s data centres.

Their integration into Tesla’s new products is expected in the near future.
