Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may visit Serbia this week as the head of a Ukrainian delegation, Serbian broadcaster N1 has quoted diplomatic sources in Belgrade as saying. But there is no official confirmation of the visit from Kiev yet.
In addition, according to the “Serbian Economist” Telegram channel, the Ukrainian delegation is expected to arrive in Serbia in the coming days, and it is possible that it will be personally led by Zelensky. If the trip takes place, it will be the first visit by a Ukrainian president to Serbia since he took office in 2019. N1 separately points out that such a trip could be cancelled at any time due to the military situation. The Serbian TV channel also reported that diplomatic sources expect a possible signing of a memorandum on trade co-operation between the two countries.
This directly coincides in time with the already announced Ukrainian business mission to Belgrade on 19-21 May 2026, which is to take place within the framework of the visit of Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka to Serbia.
According to the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the purpose of the business mission is the participation of the Ukrainian delegation in the Ukrainian-Serbian business forum, holding B2B meetings with Serbian companies, visiting enterprises, establishing new business contacts and discussing potential joint projects. Companies from agro-industrial complex, fertiliser production, construction, electrical sector, agricultural engineering, energy and other industries were invited to participate.
On the Ukrainian official side at the time of preparation of the material there was no public confirmation of Zelensky’s possible visit to Belgrade. However, the fact of preparation of an economic mission with the participation of Ukrainian business and the visit of Taras Kachka was publicly announced in advance through the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Interfax-Ukraine.
Zelensky’s possible visit would be a notable diplomatic event for the region. Serbia has maintained a difficult balance since the start of the war: Belgrade recognises Ukraine’s territorial integrity, including Crimea, but has not joined Western sanctions against Russia. Contacts between Zelenski and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic after 2022 have predominantly taken place on international platforms. In June 2025, Vucic visited Ukraine for the first time since the outbreak of full-scale war, attending the Ukraine-Southeast Europe summit in Odessa. At that time, he met with Zelensky but refused to sign the summit’s final declaration.
For economic relations, the possible visit of the Ukrainian delegation has an independent significance even without confirmation of Zelensky’s participation. Ukraine and Serbia have been trying to intensify trade contacts in recent years, and the new business forum in Belgrade may become a platform for practical agreements between companies, particularly in the agricultural sector, energy, construction and mechanical engineering.
