Storm Dave raging in Ireland: lights gone, flights cancelled

Around 4,500 households and businesses remain without power in Ireland on Sunday, 5 April, after powerful storm “Dave” brought strong wind gusts.

According to the national weather service, “the worst phase of the bad weather has now passed”. Meteorologist Andrew Doran-Sherlock said the storm was still near Norway and weather conditions would “gradually improve”, although gusty winds and intermittent rain would continue in the coming days.

Power utility ESB Networks said that about 4,500 homes, farms and businesses remain without power as of the morning, 5 April. Emergency crews are already working in the affected areas to restore power as quickly as possible.

Strong winds have also affected air travel. At Dublin Airport on Saturday, 17 flights were cancelled, another 53 planes were forced to make a second round and 13 were diverted to other airfields due to difficult weather conditions, where wind speeds reached 44 knots.
