Iran has sent its response to a US proposal aimed at ending more than two months of war, the country’s semi-official IRNA news agency reported on 10 May.
IRNA said the plan sent to Pakistan, which mediates between Washington and Tehran, focuses on ending the war, which began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February, provoked escalation in the region and wreaked havoc on world markets.
The latest US proposal is reportedly a one-page memorandum that would end hostilities and open the crucial Strait of Hormuz, but would leave several key issues, including Iran’s right to enrich uranium, for further discussion.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on 8 May that Washington expects Iran to respond to a US proposal aimed at ending the conflict.
The May 6 edition of Axios wrote that the White House believes the US and Iran are close to concluding a short memorandum of understanding that would seal an end to the war in the Middle East and set the parameters for subsequent talks on Iran’s nuclear programme.
