Moldova has not received the last tranche of the IMF loan. Minister says this will not cause financial difficulties

Moldova’s new Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilice said on 12 November that the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) decision to stop the last tranche of a $170 million reform-related loan will not cause financial difficulties for the country. According to him, quoted by the Moldovan service of Radio Liberty, the government will be able to compensate for this from other external funds.

In statements to journalists, the finance minister explained that the authorities instead use funds from the “French loan” and the EU-backed growth plan. He specified that the authorities are holding “preliminary talks with the IMF” and that a mission of this institution will come to Chisinau in December, during which “plans and potential co-operation for the future” will be discussed.

Earlier, the IMF confirmed that Moldova’s $800 million financing programme, approved back in 2021, expired at the end of October 2025. The IMF said that the last tranche had not been disbursed because Moldova had delayed several reforms, particularly fiscal ones.
