French unemployment rose to 7.7 per cent in the third quarter of 2025 from a revised 7.6 per cent in the previous three months, according to Statistics Insee.
Analysts had not expected a change in unemployment, Trading Economics reported.
The current level is the highest in four years (since the third quarter of 2021), when unemployment stood at 7.9 per cent.
The number of unemployed in the country increased by 44,000 to 2.4 million in July-September.
Unemployment among women increased by 0.3 percentage points to 7.7%, while among men – remained at 7.7%.
Employment in the country in the third quarter decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 69.4%.
